Have you ever purchased a product or had something installed on your property, only to find that a few months later, you have not been able to find any form of assistance, support or even spare parts for it?
There is usually no problem with getting service from local suppliers, unless they have opted to use imported products. I have encountered numerous incidents where companies and installers try to corner the market by selling and installing import-branded products. This forces the customer to return to that particular installer or sales person in the future.
In many cases, you will find that a new company will try to corner the market by supplying a new brand that is cheaper in price than other similar brands or items on the market, but tries to make promises along the lines of being able to always provide backup service and support for the items they are selling or installing. While this may be true in some cases, scenarios where I have seen previously unknown brands outlast some of the more popular products on the market are extremely rare.
What happens if the person supplying the import brand no longer offers support for it, or if the person or company in question is no longer in operation. You as the consumer will now have a problem in that you will need to find someone else to try and perform servicing and repairs on these products. This can present a serious challenge simply because there is a strong possibility that no one else has worked with locally before.
In most cases, your new technician will have to recommend that you replace your product with one of the more well-known and locally available brands or you may just be fortunate enough to find an installer or technician who is able to source the necessary replacement part for you, order it and install it. However, it is not always possible to find support for the less popular brands that have made an appearance on the market. It’s also important to ensure that you have more than one person who can help you with your product.
Sometimes, suppliers merge or are taken over by another company or have to close down due to stiff market competition. These are just a few of the reasons why it is better to spend a little extra and opt for one of the locally manufactured and established brand name products.
